A impound, or escrow, account is a way to ensure that taxes and bills related to homeownership are paid. A portion of a monthly mortgage payment goes into the impound account, which is set up by the lender. Then, that money is put towards the monthly non-mortgage expenses. For the homeowner, this has the practical effect of combining their mortgage payments with their other financial obligations on the property.
